Spelling software for children with a focus on gaming and activities
Having an ‘expansive vocabulary’ seems to be one of the key phrases of today. It will make you stand out even more if you can spell these words too, and the sooner you do so, the more you can achieve in the long run.
Teaching yourself how to spell as an adult is a generally straightforward journey. For children this process can be a little more challenging. Ultimate Spelling, now 7Spell, will help make that proposition a little less challenging for parents, all the while ensuring that users have fun too. We review Ultimate Spelling.
Ultimate Spelling – Overview
Ultimate Spelling (Visit Website) has been created by eReflect, one of the most comprehensive, yet legible learning software developers currently in business.
There are many benefits of teaching your children good spelling from a young age. They will receive better report cards as a result of their improved spelling, but also receive a massive boost in self confidence and improve their overall grades.
- Practice with the right spelling list to focus on the areas that matter
- Use fun games and activities to master your lists
- Keep track of your progress and set new goals
- Please note, Ultimate Spelling is now 7Spell.
Ultimate Spelling – Features
A lot of the features of the highly successful Ultimate Vocabulary have been transferred across to Ultimate Spelling. These key features have been streamlined and made more appealing to children via a bright interface, simplified text and additional use of images.
Adaptable List Creation: The creation of word lists is central to the learning with this program. By providing an easy to access addition tool, words and their meanings are added in a matter of seconds to these lists so the process of learning is not slowed down. These lists also form the backbone of the games provided, and can be altered or ‘mixed up’ at any time.
Fun and varied games and activities: The more fun something is, the more your young ones will be willing to learn. By providing a variety of exercises, from crosswords and word searches to clue based games and even the classic hangman, this deeper, more enjoyable form of learning will only benefit your children’s learning, and maybe yours along the way too! The more traditional information gatherer is catered for also, with there being detailed explanations and examples of how that certain word is applied in everyday language.
A fun, visual way of showing your progress: Motivation and actually showing just how far you have come is a vital ingredient in all forms of life. This software recognizes this and provides you with numerous, yet legible graphs and tables showing just how far you have come so far. It also shows users just how far away they are from the next level of progress, giving them a target to reach. This will make sure that your children continue to learn and have an incentive to do so.
Share your experience: As noted on their website, children love to share their achievements online these days any way they can. Not only do they have a social profile created for you, but by linking with friends you can view their activity and progress too. This tutor can also be installed across multiple systems, allowing for users to take their learning with them wherever they go! New features for the 2015 edition include cloud sharing, allowing anyone with an internet connection to access any data you have created as well as provide you with feedback for your lists.
Group Access: One of the new, flagship features for the 2015 edition is the new features regarding group access. As well as individual use, Ultimate Spelling for kids has been reconfigured for class use, allowing many more children to reap the benefits of improved spelling as well as ensuring additional teachers to have access. This also helps the keep the overall cost down.
Bottom line: Combining all of these features into one cohesive, slick package is part of its modus operandi and, in a wide variety of aspects it works incredibly well. A wider implementation of games will only increase learning capacity. Better access will only open up the amount of hours you can dedicate to the software.
Add to this the improved ability to share lists and data, and this piece of software will only benefit all involved, from children to adults and professionals. There are however key aspects that should not be swept under the carpet.

Ultimate Spelling: Things to consider
Furthermore, upon starting the software there are lengthy descriptions relating to how the lists and created items will be shared with other users, which obviously has its own benefits. However, being faced with several walls of somewhat technical text upon start up is not ideal for software aimed at younger generations, even though you could easily argue this should be a parent’s job anyway.
Whilst Ultimate Spelling offers an extensive database that is ever expanding (currently the capacity lies in the region of 140,000 words plus), the service offered has similarities to other products available on the market.
Take for example one of their closest competitors, “Spelling Made Simple”. A lot of the features of this software, including games and activities suitable for children are quite similar to what eReflect offers whilst also offering an incredibly useful feature in the form of voice recording.
What this tool does is allow you to capture your own pronunciation of certain words that you may find challenging and these remain in the database forever for you to refer back to whenever you need.
Whilst this seems like a relatively minor blip in an otherwise superb radar, it is puzzling that they have left out such a useful tool on software that is, after all only designed to aid the user in their spelling of a wide variety of words. (Round-up: Compare different spelling software.)
Ultimate Spelling Review: The Verdict
In the grand scheme of things, this is a small detail however. This orthography trainer for children offered by eReflect is a comprehensive, legible and enjoyable way to undertake the learning of new words and caters to a wide audience of all ages, be it children all the way to adults simply looking for an enjoyable way to expand their vocabulary whilst improving their spelling also (Visit Website).
Sure there are one or two integral flaws with the software, these being its technical set-up process and lacking of certain features offered by other developers. But these do not detract from the overall package offered, this being a high quality and adaptable package. If you are looking for software that offers multiple ways to learn whilst also being good value for money, then you can do no wrong with Ultimate Spelling software for kids.
